Do I need a special sponge for grout?
Don't use just any sponge, especially one from the kitchen; choose a “hydrophilic” (water-loving) sponge. They're sold near the tile supplies. Make sure it's damp, not wet, and sweep diagonally across the face of the tile and wipe the grout off the tile surface.
How long leave grout before wiping?
Let the grout set for 15 to 30 minutes, and wipe up the excess grout with a dense grout sponge soaked in water. (If you think it's going to take you longer than 30 minutes to grout all of the tiles and be ready to move onto cleanup, you may have to work in smaller sections.
Can you apply grout with a sponge?
No, grouting sponges have rounded edges that won't dig out the freshly applied grout. You'll use the dampened grout sponge to wipe away excess grout residue off the tile once you finish working it into the cracks.
